Wall Art Designs
This typographic canvas print was created as a wedding gift for my sister and brother-in-law. I typed words and phrases that related to their relationship and added a highlight color to the section that is specific to their wedding. I chose teal for that part because it was part of the wedding theme palette. I have made many more of this as a gift for others who were getting married. They do take time to make, however it is such a personal and meaningful gift that I have never minded the design time they require.
I created these posters for myself using photographs I had taken in summer of 2020. They were designed so they could be placed individually or together. They were designed during the pandemic. I used the Maya Angelou quote for the butterfly photo because everything felt like it was in such a state of change at that time. It felt hopeful to believe that all the change meant something more beautiful was coming. I captured the photo of this butterfly in a moment of stillness while I was walking in a state park. During that time state parks were open and their use was even encouraged to get out of the house while remaining socially distant. This specific walk was not only beneficial to my physical and mental health, I got one of my favorite photos that day too.
The sunflower poster is a great example of creating something from nothing - I started planting sunflowers while life “planted” me at home in quarantine, the flower bloomed and attracted a bee, I took a photo and then used that photo to design a poster. This was not something I had planned when planting the seeds and the final result was better than I could have imagined. This journey was summarized in the quote I chose, which was also inspired by my cousin, who asked me to paint the saying on her graduation cap.
